Cages frustrate the natural drives and emotional lives of
tigers and bears, driving them mad. Similarly, our drives and
emotions become distorted due to being caged by language
and thinking. Language locks into place organising notions
such as personal identity and a sense of purpose. Locking
ourselves behind such powerful concepts satisfies our needs for order and safety - but at a price.
Because we also need to feel free, we misconceive the cage of language and thinking as crucial to survival. Linked to suvival, misconception becomes a way of life, we lose touch with reality. But what would it be like to be freed from language and thinking, to see the world and ourselves for real, for the first time? The characters in the play find out.
